As autumn begins to unfurl its crisp tendrils around us, I find myself in nesting mode – sorting, tidying and packing away the frivolities of the warmer months. Holiday clothes are folded and zipped up in the back of the wardrobe, summer toys are hidden in the highest playroom boxes or sent off to my self-storage unit, and light bed-linens are swapped for cosy throws and thicker togs.
Knowing that we are going to be hunkering down at home for a long winter makes these rituals necessary but not always appealing. Making the art of organising a little more bearable are some great new storage products to hide, store and even display your efforts.
1. Ferm Living Wire Baskets
I love a product that does two jobs in one. Danish brand Ferm Living’s Small Medium and Large Wire Baskets can store blankets, toys and magazines inside its striking graphic form and with the addition of oak tops can double as side tables.
2. Idyll Home Storage Trunks

These beautiful metal trunks come in pretty pastel colours and are studded with copper detail. Store paperwork, memorabilia or daily office items – these are too good looking not to use every day.
3. Anthropologie Woven Wedge Baskets

How striking are these handmade organic baskets that could almost double as sculptural works of art? These are light enough to serve as storage for intermediate items that you might need quick access to like hats, scarves and shoes. They are good looking enough to be kept atop cupboards for easy reach.
4. IKEA KNAGGLIG Boxes

You can’t beat IKEA for style, price and function. This affordable and sturdy take on the vintage crate trend is the perfect way to organise and store tools and practical household objects.
5. West Elm Glass Shadow Boxes

Even beautiful possessions can end up looking cluttered if not contained. These vintage style glass shadow boxes show-off trinkets and accessories to their best advantage whilst adding charm to dressing tables and shelves.
