We’ve had our share of snowflakes in the UK, but some countries are blessed with a long and lavish snow season.
So for those who aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to winter, a ski holiday with family, friends or a partner is the ideal getaway. Whether you’re or a beginner or an expert, skiing is enjoyable for everyone.
However, prior to the trip there is a check list that may need ticking off to ensure ski success.
Choose the right clothing
First and foremost, purchasing ski clothing prior to the holiday is essential. A ski jacket, salopettes, thermal underwear, gloves and goggles are enough to make even the most novice of skiers look professional.
Leave the cotton at home and stick to wool or synthetic fabrics. Once cotton gets wet, either from sweat or snow, it won’t dry out, leaving you damp and cold.
Rent or purchase your sports gear
Let’s face it, snow holidays aren’t cheap. There’s a ton of gear you need to enjoy the snow.
If you’re a beginner and you haven’t figured out yet if skiing is really your thing, then renting your gear from a rental store in the resort where you stay is the cheapest option.
For those who already have their personal equipment stored in a self-storage facility, such as skis and helmets, make sure it meets safety requirements.
A minor fall can have a major impact on a helmet, reducing the protection it offers. It’s a small price to pay for what is ultimately, a piece of life-saving equipment.
Whilst purchasing the industry’s finest equipment and fashion, don’t forget to add insurance to the checklist. No amount of style can prevent falls and a good insurance will ideally cover all winter sports for any accidental ventures.
Practice your moves
The key to a successful ski holiday largely relies on practice.
Before heading abroad, it’s useful to learn the basics of skiing. From parallel to cross country skiing, revision of key terminology is essential to understanding the instructor.
With an array of indoor ski slopes situated within driving distance of London, there’s no shortage of machine churned snow to practice your ski moves, including the landing technique, aka ‘how to fall gracefully’.
Skiing doesn’t have to be restricted to professionals and remember, everyone was a beginner at one point.
Good look and maybe we’ll see you on the slopes!
