December signals the time to put up Christmas Decorations.
Homes are turned into vibrant places full of joy, and this year should be no exception.
But, as we all consider ways to lessen our impact on the planet, finding festive decorations that are both wonderful for the home and the world can go a long way.
Try these sustainable and eco-friendly decorations to make a positive impact this year.
Re-use year after year
If you already have a set of Christmas decorations – dig them out of storage and use them again. Simply re-using items is the best for our environment.
You will avoid sending anything to landfill and they can be enjoyed for may years without causing any additional harm.
Think about all the items you receive this Xmas too – and how you might put them to use next year. Christmas cards can be kept and re-used as present tags or tree decorations, and wrapping paper can be used for another gift.
Natural Xmas
Look to nature for some truly beautiful Christmas decorations. Pinecones with a piece of string tied around the top can be hung onto your tree.
Sprigs of holly can be scattered around the house, or try wrapping ivy around a wire to make a festive wreath. Similarly, Poinsettias are the perfect Christmas plant, bringing festive red to your home.

Christmas crackers are a plastic-waste culprit. This year replace your single-use crackers with reusable ones. These are primarily made from material which can be hand tied; plus have the added bonus of being bespoke! Add a personal gift and joke into the middle for your guests.
Plastic-free and certified Trinkets
Look our for the right labels to ensure the items you are buying meet strict environmental standards. The ones to look out for include Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Energy Star and Palm Oil free.
LED Lights
LED lights are more eco-friendly than traditional incandescent lights as they use less energy (plus will be better on the wallet).
For outdoor light look into solar powered options, or set them onto a timer to limit the time they are drawing energy.
Eco Candles
Flickering candles also conjure up the magic of Christmas – but always go for the eco choices of soy and beeswax rather than paraffin.
In addition try dabbing natural essence around or create natural potpourri. This will fill your home with the truly festive scent of fir, cedar, cinnamon and pine.
Christmas is all about celebration. After a few years of socially distanced ones, this year is one to enjoy. Make an effort to fill your homes with the festive spirit.
