A Kitchen is the hub of the home. Alongside the usual cooking and food prep, the kitchen can double up as a place for entertaining, crafting or even your home office. So if you have a small kitchen you need to be smart with your storage. Need some advice? Here are some excellent storage hacks for small kitchens.
Maximise Your Wall Space
Always maximise your wall space by installing practical shelves on any available wall! Wire racks are also brilliant to use too, so you can stack plates above and below on each shelf too.
Need another clever tip?! Add hooks below the shelf too! You can use these for organising and storing cups and utensils. Same goes for the sides of cupboards – add hooks here for tea towels or aprons which fit in narrow gaps.
Junk Drawer to Spice Rack
Spice jars can take over kitchen shelves and cupboards, so try using a drawer instead. The compact space is perfect for your jars, so line them up inside the drawer and they will be both easy to reach – and easy to find.
Dividers and Storage Trays
Invest in drawer dividers and storage trays so you can neatly group items together – everything should have a designated home. If items are left to get muddled and shuffled around in a drawer, bits and pieces get tangled, and – ultimately – lost.
Storage trays will give your shelves and drawers that Pinterest-worthy look too. No more fear when guests have a little peak inside.
Sliding Doors To Hide the Mess
Sliding doors, or ‘pocket doors’, are brilliant in narrow kitchens. They roll sideways rather than opening outwards which gives you more room – particularly in galley kitchens.
They can also be used along one whole side to conceal preparation areas, or to keep all those appliances hidden.
Peg Board Storage Systems
Peg Boards are amazing as they can be adapted to fit your specific storage need. In a kitchen they can be fitted to a wall, or the inside of a cupboard, and can keep pots, pans and utensils super organised.
Free Standing Storage
Free standing storage units, or moveable trolleys are excellent in kitchens. They are perfect for neatly stowing away your kitchen items – with added flexibility. When the kitchen space needs to be turned into a dining, or work space? No worries. Simply roll them away so you can use the extra space.
