We all want more space. No matter the size of your existing home – we all dream of a bit more leg room. But did you know you could gain more space without even moving? If you get your storage solutions right, you can truly maximise the smallest of spaces. Here are our top 5 hacks to make your small room, super cool. Space saving hacks you need to know.
1. Use every available space
When working with a small room you need to use every available space. That means clever under bed storage if there is room – think baskets or bags that can be packed with out-of-season clothes that can then be stowed under bed, and out of sight.
Also look at the back of doors, or inside of cupboards. Can you hang up hooks or hangers here? You can then stow away extra pieces like accessories, belts or ties without taking up valuable space else where.
Dual purpose furniture is amazing as well. Foot stools, beds or tables that can double up as storage too will definitely make your life easier.
2. Bedding under your mattress
Bedding sets can take up a lot of room in airing cupboards or drawers, so why not store them under your mattress? If you fold them flat and lie them at the foot of your bed you will never notice they are there. A simple storage solution that will free up space in your cupboards!
3. Aim High
There is a lot of storage potential up high that can often be overlooked. Do you have space above doors, or along the ceiling line? Or even blank walls?
Shelves are a a great first step. They are simple to add to a wall, and can then provide much needed storages solutions to a kitchen or bedroom. Make sure you aim high too. Can you fit a storage shelf above your door to keep some extra bits and pieces?
Peg boards are a great addition as they can be multi purpose – adapting to your existing needs.
4. Mirror Magic
Mirrors will create the illusion of space, even if you can’t find any more gaps in your home.
Placing a mirror opposite a window, for example, will reflect in the natural daylight and create the illusion of more space. The bigger the mirror – the more light to reflect, and conversely go small with the frame to maximise the magic!
If you have a wall with artwork, consider adding small sunburst mirrors too. Filling in the gaps with help to add extra dimension to the room.
5. Look for space elsewhere
Sometimes you will just simply run out of room. If you are bursting at the seams, and need a storage extension to your own home – look for your local self-storage facility. Storage centres like Shurgard are clean and dry storage spaces that can work as your extra cupboard or garage away from your own home.
