How To Host The Perfect Coronation Party

How To Host The Perfect Coronation Party

Bank Holiday season is here! The additional May Bank Holiday this year – to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III – means we have 2 extended weekends back-to-back. Time to celebrate with friends and family, and come together as a nation.

If you are looking to celebrate the occasion with a fun Coronation Party on 6th May, we have pulled together some great tips on how to host the perfect Coronation Party.  Now is the time to get prepared!

1. Where will you do it?

Street parties are the go-to when it comes to Coronations.  This, however, normally requires permission from the local authority (particularly if you are on a through road).  So, if you’ve not gone down this route already, you may be too late.  But if you live in a cul-de-sac or have adjourning front gardens – this may still be an option! Alternative, you can consider your own house, back garden or use a local park.

Check the weather to see if you need wet weather provisions if you are outside – like a gazebo or marquee.

2. Who will you invite?

This is a time to come together with your nearest and dearest.  So, invite your neighbours and close friends and family. Try to get confirmation from your guests so you know how many people you need to accommodate.

3. Set your schedule

It is a good idea to create an agenda for your day, so you know a rough schedule of events. It doesn’t need military timing, but if you are preparing food it helps to know when you need things to go in the oven, or to come out of the fridge.

The Coronation procession is due to set off at 10:20, with the service at Westminster Abbey starting at 11:00. It could be an early start if you want everyone over for the beginning of the parade!

4. Sort food and drinks

Keep everything simple and classic, particularly if you are inviting a big group of people over. We recommend buffet-style with large platters of food that you can prepare in advance, or ask people to bring a dish to share to ease the cost.

Some of the classic recipes for a coronation include finger sandwiches (coronation chicken filling a must!), sausage rolls, crudités, pork pies, vegetable pasties, scones, ice buns and trifle!

King Charles III announced that quiche is the official coronation dish, so have a go at making your own!

5. Prep the space

If you are hosting your party inside, do you need to reconfigure your lounge or kitchen area?  Empty out the room of bulky furniture to free up space for your guests to mingle.  You can temporarily move it to another room, or pop it into storage for a few days to minimise the hassle.

What about seating? Do you need guests to bring a camping chair?  It will be a good idea to consider how all your guests can seat and eat if needed!

6. Decorate

The fun part! How are you going to decorate for the big day?

You might still have some Union Jack bunting from the jubilee which you can bring out of storage.  Or check out the shops and you can find all sorts of red, white and blue! Bunting is a must, as well as flags, balloons and celebratory tablecloths and napkins.

Create your own playlist of relevant party tunes too.

The day will be a monumental occasion – with everyone wanting to join together and celebrate – so your day is bound to be a success! Enjoy!
