Savvy Storage Ideas for your Lounge

Savvy Storage Ideas for your Lounge

Every room in the house needs decent storage.  The lounge is no exception.  It is a multi-tasking space that can be a playroom, an office and a place to unwind after a hectic day.  We need to keep a lot of stuff in our lounges – so smart, usable storage solutions are essential to make clearing up simple. I bet you don’t want to compromise on style either!

Try some of these savvy storage ideas for your lounge and you will be able to keep on top of the mess.

Built-in Storage

Make use of the corners of the room and build in a good-looking, but functional storage unit.  Older properties might have alcoves that are the perfect spot for cupboards. If not dedicate a wall to your storage needs.  A few enclosed spaces that can quickly hide ‘stuff’ combined with shelves that can display more stylish bits.

DIY one yourself, or enlist a local carpenter to help.  Either way – a neat looking piece of built-in storage is the perfect place to keep all your things. Plus keeps the lounge looking chic.

Dual-purpose Furniture

A lounge is often packed with furniture – so make it dual purpose! Invest in a sofa or a foot stool that has hidden storage space inside. Or how about a coffee table that has a lift up lid?

Multi-purpose furniture is such a clever trick – particularly for smaller living rooms. Bulky blankets or cushions can be tucked away without compromising on the usable space.

Sideboard Storage

Sideboards were designed to keep spare dinnerware, but their stylish designs have meant they are fabulous storage pieces for any room.

We recommend placing storage boxes inside your sideboard to avoid it becoming a cluttered mess.  Having dedicated boxes for your bits and pieces will make it much easier to locate what you need each time.

The top of your sideboard is the perfect place to display pictures or ornaments too.  Definitely winning for both style and function here.

Nesting Tables

Nesting tables are also a brilliant hack for small living rooms.  The tables can be stacked into each other when not in use – freeing up the space around your lounge.  When needed they can be placed in the relevant location.  Super flexible, and simple lines.

Organise your Remotes

Remotes are the most frequently lost item in the lounge.  Create a dedicated place for it to go and you won’t lose it again!

A decorative tray on a coffee table is a good option.  Place it back after use, and everyone in the family will thank you.

Beautiful Baskets

Storage doesn’t always have to be hidden.  Make a feature of your storage solution and use decorative baskets in the living room.  These are perfect for toys or blankets – items which can be pulled out when in use, and shoved back in again when finished.

A decorative basket which has an interesting design or colour will bring the piece into the whole style aesthetic of the lounge.

Keep It Out Of the Lounge

It is essential to keep a lot of thing to hand in the lounge, but there are likely to be items that are not frequently used.  Or, at least, not used year round.  Comfy fluffy blankets that are currently being used in winter, for example, will not be useful when the height of summer returns.

Review all the items in the lounge and re-home those pieces that can live elsewhere.  They could be packed away around your home, or stored in your own storage unit.  New to self-storage?
